La Scuola is seeking a part-time, experienced, passionate and skilled Kitchen Coordinator to manage lunch and snack service at our elementary school campus in Hayes Valley.

The successful candidate will have a positive attitude, the ability to handle multiple tasks at once, strong communication skills and precision in making online orders, sound judgment and the ability to get along with all staff, students and parents.

A genuine affinity towards children is a must!

Essential Functions

  • Serve delivered meals to 90 children and staff daily and prepare snacks for 50 students
  • Sanitation of food service areas and culinary equipment, as well as safe food handling practices - ServSafe Certification is required (La Scuola will provide if necessary)
  • Take care of the receiving, stock, rotation and inventory of products (food and janitorial supplies) and regulatory compliance

  • Load and unload dishwasher
  • Ensure all special dietary needs are met and prepare special meals as needed/directed
  • Maintain organized storage areas for both dry and frozen stores
  • Compliance with all record keeping, food safety and risk management requirements are essential
  • Prepare food for special teaching projects
  • Set up, serve and clean up catering service for special events - some attendance during evening hours may be required

Minimum Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED accepted
  • A current ServSafe® certificate (food services sanitation certificate)
  • Two years working in the food service industry or job-related experience including food preparation

  • Fluency in reading, writing and speaking English (knowledge of Italian is highly desired)

  • Able to stand and walk all day, ability to reach, bend, stoop and wipe. Able to lift up at least 50 lbs
  • Must be able to work in a noisy and crowded environment.
Prior to beginning work and as a condition of employment in order to comply with the law, all employees must provide documentation to prove eligibility to work in United States. In addition, the final candidate will need to pass Criminal Justice Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance, a physical exam, and provide recent copy of a negative TB test and other immunization records.


This position is part-time at approximately 23 hours per week; general working hours are 10am - 2:30pm Monday through Friday. This position will begin in mid-August.

Compensation: $17.5 per hour + PTO and paid holidays. The school also offers retirement and commuter benefits.
