Summer Camp at La Scuola: An Authentic Learning Experience

La Scuola, the First International Baccalaureate (IB) K8 World School in San Francisco and the first Reggio Emilia - IB - Italian Immersion school in the World, will be running a unique Summer Camp for children ages 6
through 12, where children will be immersed in the Italian Language whilst applying innovative, real-world skills to apply project based learning within real contexts that affect our communities.

The camp is subdivided into 4/5 weekly thematic units – Animal Architects, Tinker “Il Mio Cortile” (Tinker My Playground), STEAM Code Away and Sew-me- a-Story – led by specialists with decades of experience in each one of the thematic units being covered. In addition, children will alternate 2
hands-on sessions with native Italian teachers providing an immersive Italian environment for the acquisition of the foreign language and the use of the foreign language as a tool and for fun encounters.

La Scuola is currently scouting for talented Summer Camp Counselors who have experience working with children ages 3-5yr old (PreK Summer Camp) and 6-12yr old (K6).

Essential Duties:

  • Assists specialist teachers in the performance of the hands-on activities; assists children in meeting their physical needs and, in using learning materials and equipment.
  • Prepares instructional, display, and other work materials as required
  • Maintains normal classroom routines and uses appropriate re-direction and positive guidance strategies
  • Assists in preparation and distribution of snacks and meals as well as supervise meal times while eating with children
  • Collects, distributes, stores or disposes of materials, and assists in the arrangement of furniture and equipment
  • Become acquainted with our diverse teams of experienced educators


  • A BA, or Child Development Certificate, and/or 2+ years-experience working with children
  • Knowledge of Reggio Emilia and IB strongly preferred

Required Skills:

  • B1 in English (referenced to the CEFR)
  • Preferably native Italian speaker
  • Developed skills in one or more of the following areas: developed skills in the following areas: music (playing an instrument and/or singing), dance, art, yoga, tinkering, coding, cooking, engineering, architecture, design or any other hands-on craft activity
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Problem solving, creativity, multitasking skills
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality records

Dates: June 25 to 29 for PreK and July 9 through August 3, 2018 PreK and K6

Hours: Monday through Friday from 8:30-5:30

If living abroad, La Scuola will facilitate the J1 Camp Counselor Visa through a third party provider.

Candidates must be active students and enrolled at a School/University and/or be currently employed.

Pay depends on experience. For candidates living abroad, accommodation will be provided by being placed within a family.



Final candidate will need to pass Criminal Justice Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance, Physical Exam and TB Test.
